Artfully Queer - Out Of Darkness, 2017
Curated by Phoebe Adams
"Our curator, Phoebe Adams will be creating an exhibition space that doubles as a creative hub for the LGBTIQ community, an active space, providing opportunities for meeting, networking, discussion, learning and artistic engagement with the LGBTIQ arts and wider communities.
This years opening event will include the "Artfully Queer" song, sung by the QTas Choir, a special poem reading by Jasper Theodore, prize announcements. Nevo Zisin, author of "Finding Nevo" will be this years VIQP (Very Important Queer Person) who will have the honour of opening the show. We’re planning a schedule of pop up activities including a poetry slam, an audience with Nevo, a QTas Choir rehearsal, mini- market, cards against heteronormativity and a science fiction book launch. We are also working on giving all Tasmanians, no matter where they live, access to the show via live feeds, and interviews with artists and organisers and special guests.
Thanks to our friends at the Salamanca Arts Centre, Artfully Queer will be located in the huge Long Gallery space for the first time.
We have partnered with QTas Arts, who are coordinating this years Collective Work.
This year all participating artists, designers, craftspeople, creatives and writers will be asked to respond in some way to the theme, Out of Darkness and provide a statement on how they have addressed the theme."
